Mel & Greg – Married

I have known the Henry family for over a dozen years, so when Mel first contacted me to explain her vision for her wedding, I was immediately excited.  A wedding on a Thursday evening at an intimate Winnipeg restaurant with only the closest of family and friends seemed like an amazing idea to me – and an amazing idea it was!

The wedding day started off as Mel and Greg prepped at The Forks for their evening wedding.  I met them in their hotel room as Greg was putting the finishing touches on his authentic Scottish attire (please don’t ask what he was wearing under the kilt – I honestly don’t know!) and Mel was finishing up with her hair and make-up.

After everyone was dolled-up and ready to go, we headed downstairs to see the families and take care of some family pics.  Luckily we had a gorgeous April day to work with and were able to set up the family shots right close to the hotel.

With no wedding party, the next hour focused solely on Mel and Greg as we scouted out The Forks for great light and photo ops.  Mel and Greg looked amazing together and were incredibly easy-going and fun to shoot!  We even had the pleasure of using Mel’s dad’s Cadillac for a few pics before we all needed to head over to the ceremony.

The ceremony and reception took place at Mise Bistro.  I had never been there before, but Mel and Greg swore that the food there was amazing, and boy were they right.

The ceremony was short but sweet as Mel and Greg were joined by a group of their closest family and friends while they exchanged their vows and took care of the day’s legalities.

After some mingling, one lady who almost spilled on her brand-new white dress (I won’t say who though!), and a few delicious hors d’oeuvres, guests were treated to an amazing choice of dinners in the intimate dining room at Mise.  Dinner was followed by a few wonderful speeches and a cake-cutting, and that was it for the evening!

Although the day wasn’t incredibly long, it was incredibly right as Mel and Greg planned out their day exactly as they wanted it to go.  Thanks for inviting me into such a special day!

All the best,

Nevin

Kristen & Jon – Engaged

Heading out to Kenora usually makes for a wonderful day, especially when there is an awesome couple awaiting their engagement pictures.  Add to that a fresh foot of fluffy snow and a beautiful blue sky day that’s not too frigidly cold for the end of February and all the ingredients are ready for a great shoot.

I met up with Kristen and Jon at their gorgeous cabin (yes it was going through some renovations, but it was still breathtaking) before we headed out to Rushing River – a location I’ve visited many times in the warmer months, but never in the winter.  Growing up in flatland MB I thought it was pretty safe to assume that any water – be it a lake, river, or stream – is frozen pretty solid by Christmas.  Needless to say I was pretty excited to see that the water was still flowing at Rushing River (such crazy things tend to happen when the land isn’t perfectly level!).

We took some shots around the beautiful rapids and marched through some deep snow before heading back to the car for a quick stop by a golden cliff.

Accompanied by Seiko and Raven, our next stop was the island on the lake where Jon proposed to Kristen last winter.  The walk walk was definitely worth it and it was pretty fun to see the dogs jumping through the deep snow just to get in a few pics – total hams!

It was a lovely frosty shoot which would have been perfect if only the Jets would have beat the Blues in the shootout during our warm-up break at Kristen and Jon’s!

Thanks guys and I can’t wait for your wedding this fall in the same beautiful area!
